Oh, this moment was so worth the wait. That look of shock and horror, of utter and complete betrayal – perfection. To think, he believed he had the upper hand all this time, bringing me up here for a bird’s-eye view of the nefarious destruction he and his fellows would unleash upon the innocent citizens of Edge, all in search for their “mother” – a few vials of cells, hidden right in front of him all this time.

Serves the miniature nightmare right. If Sephiroth hadn’t started all this bullshit, my cat might still be alive.

Dark Nation, a sort of cat/hound creature which accompanies Rufus in the first battle between himself and Cloud (early in the game, when you're still stuck in Midgar) and is capable of casting barrier and mbarrier on him. It shows up in this battle (although not in Rufus' preliminary speechifying) and then never shows up again, and the standard tactics for the fight involve killing it off fairly early on in the business (so it can't keep attacking you or putting barriers around Rufus).
